| Friday, 15 November, 2002, 15:23 GMT SPL dispute rumbles on ![]() The 10 "rebel" clubs are holding firm for change The dispute that threatens to split Scottish top-flight football showed no sign of ending after the 10 "rebel" SPL clubs dismissed the latest Old Firm proposals for reform as nothing new. Representatives of the 10 clubs met at Dunfermline's East End Park on Friday to discuss suggestions from Rangers and Celtic to amend the structure of a league. The 10 clubs, who handed in their resignations in July and a currently serving a period of two seasons notice, want a number of changes to the constitution. The most important of which concerns changing the voting structure away from the existing 11-1 majority and redistributing media income.
Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness said: "I think it is fair to say we are still some distance apart on some of the major issues. "We will be prepared to meet one more time to see if we can close that gap. "Our point of view is still that we want to get competitiveness back, fairness back and for the clubs to control their own destiny. "It has been frustrating that we have not been able to pick up the pace on this because it is such an important issue for Scottish football." Hibernian chief executive Rod Petrie added: "The sad reality is that the position of the Old Firm is similar to the position they held some time ago." The Old Firm have made it clear that if the voting structure were to be changed to an 8-4 majority a number of "reserved" issues should stay at 11-1. Petrie added: "The 10 clubs are absolutely together and agreed. On the key issue of the voting, there is still no specification in terms of just how many reserved matters there might be and that's one area where I think there needs to be more clarity from them." |
