Carlisle 0-2 Exeter

Carlisle suffered defeat against Exeter at Brunton Park after conceding two goals in three minutes at the end of the first half.

United received a let-off just prior to conceding when Steve Flack headed Andy Roscoe's corner against the bar and the ball went for a corner.

Roscoe took the second corner and this time an unmarked Don Goodman hammered the ball past Carlisle keeper Peter Keen from six yards.

Exeter's second goal came just three minutes later as Santos Gaia sent a left-footed shot from 18 yards into the corner of the net.

The home side could have scored earlier when Mick Galloway's crossfield ball found Peter Murphy who gave Brian Wake a scoring chance.

The 20-year-old, making his first start for United, sent his eight-yard shot past advancing keeper Kevin Miller but just inches wide of the upright.

Carlisle: Keen, Andrews, Kelly, Whitehead, Birch, Galloway, Summerbell, McDonagh, Murphy, Nixon, Wake. Subs: Burns, Jack, Slaven, McGill, Naisbitt.

Exeter: Kevin Miller, McConnell, Watson, Gaia, Power, Coppinger, Thomas, Cronin, Roscoe, Goodman, Flack. Subs: Fraser, Curran, Ampadu, Sheldon, Clevdon Taylor.

Referee: T Bates (Stoke on Trent)
