| Saturday, 31 August, 2002, 17:11 GMT 18:11 UK Torquay 2-1 Wrexham Former Wrexham goalkeeper Kevin Dearden was inspired against his former employers as Torquay ran out winners against the Dragons. Dearden could do nothing about the 14th minute penalty from Andy Morrell that earned Wrexham an early lead. However, Kevin Hill's superb header dragged the home side back into the game seven minutes later. And worse was to come for Denis Smith's men as David Graham fired the Gulls into the lead on the half-hour mark. Torquay should have won by a bigger margin as Tony Bedeau missed an open goal and Graham had a penalty saved by Andy Dibble after 70 minutes, but the home side hung on to take all three points. Torquay: Dearden, Canoville, Hazell, Woozley, Hankin, Bedeau, Fowler, Russell, Hill, Graham, Richardson. Subs: Attwell, Hockley, Prince, Douglin, Gritton. Wrexham: Dibble, Pejic, Lawrence, Roberts, Carlos Edwards, Holmes, Whitley, Ferguson, Thomas, Trundle, Morrell. Subs: Barrett, Rogers, Paul Edwards, Bennett, Sam. Referee: M Cooper (West Midlands). |
