| Robson relishing challenge ![]() Alan Shearer fires home Newcastle's fourth goal Bobby Robson is looking forward to taking on Europe's elite after Newcastle reached the Champions League. A 4-0 home victory over Zeljeznicar of Bosnia took the Magpies into Thursday's draw in Monaco for the first group phase. But after the 5-0 aggregate win, Robson warned: "There will not be any easy draws in the group stages. "We are going to meet some very strong sides but we are just going to have to stick in there and get through the first group phase. Great reward "Tough games will come thick and fast in the Champions League but we must soldier on and be professional." However, the 69-year-old former England, Barcelona, Eindhoven and Porto boss could not hide his delight at Newcastle's qualification.
Robson was quick to play down his role in United's revival, but he admitted: "I think the club was a bit ill when I first came here. "We've changed the philosophy, the atmosphere and we've changed the personnel dramatically. Goals from Kieron Dyer, Lomana Lua Lua, Hugo Viana and Alan Shearer ultimately gave Newcastle a comfortable passage into European football's elite. England midfielder Dyer said: "We did a professional job and it feels great. "It is the biggest club competition in the world and we are going to be playing against the best players and the best teams." Robson certainly believes Dyer has the talent to shine on the European stage. "He was the instigator of many of our best moves against Zeljeznicar. "He ran riot really, they couldn't hang on to him. He's got the world at his feet." |
