Mozambique goes for Bondarenko
Mozambique's Clodoado Tchabana tackles Morocco's Hadji
Mozambique have been plagued by managerial instability
Former Soviet international Viktor Bondarenko will decide next week whether to accept an offer to return to Mozambique as national coach.

Bondarenko spent two years in charge of the Mozambique team from 1993 and 1996 and travelled to Maputo for talks with the Mozambican federation.

"I had talks with the minister of sport and the football federation and now I wait for them to make a firm offer," he said from his home in Johannesburg on Saturday.

"A lot depends on the conditions. But when I was in Mozambique previously it was an excellent experience."

Bondarenko guided Mozambique to the 1996 African Nations Cup finals but resigned on the eve of the tournament after a pay dispute.

It was only the second time Mozambique have reached the Nations Cup finals.

Under Bondarenko, Mozambique had nine wins, five draws and four losses in 18 matches between April 1993 and November 1995.

Mozambique recently lost 3-0 at home to the Congo in an African Nations Cup qualifier, precipitating the departure of coach Augusto Matine.

Until recently, Bondarenko was the coach of South African premier league club Mamelodi Sundowns, from where he was sacked in November.
