| Wednesday, 8 January, 2003, 16:34 GMT Gabon go Greek ![]() Gabon are struggling in their Nations Cup qualifying group Gabon are hoping to appoint the coach of Greek side Aris Thessaloniki, Giorgos Foiros, as the new national team boss. Foiros has been offered exceedingly generous terms to take up the post, including US$400,000 to sign a one-year contract. On top of that he would receive a monthly salary of US$40,000, together with a house, car and free air travel. The deal would make Foiros the best-paid coach in Africa, with Gabon also willing to offer Aris US$200,000 in compensation for Firos to break his two-year contract with the club. The proposal has reportedly been made to Aris by Fifa's Nigerian agent, Monday Odiaka, who has been authorized by Gabon to find a European coach. Aris are currently sixth in the 16-team Greek first division standings with 22 points, seven behind league-leader Olympiakos Piraeus. An unnamed Aris official confirmed there had been a proposal from Gabon, but refused to comment further. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
