| Wednesday, 30 October, 2002, 14:40 GMT South Africa deny 2010 deal ![]() Germany beat South Africa for the 2006 World Cup "The bid for the World Cup is open to every member of Fifa," bid chief Danny Jordaan told BBC Sport Online. There had been speculation that Egypt had gone back on an agreement to give South Africa a free hand to pursue their 2010 bid. In exchange for getting the next World Cup, South Africa withdrew from the 2006 Nations Cup hosting race, clearing the path for Egypt's success. "If Egypt wants to make a bid they have every right to do so," Jordaan said. "If you are going to ask for documents and written agreements (about a deal between the two countries) they don't exist." Jordaan says South Africa is undeterred by the possibility of Nigeria, Morocco and Libya joining the race. "We are ready to compete with anyone on the continent and we are confident we have a strong and comprehensive case," he said. South Africa narrowly lost to Germany in the contest for the 2006 World Cup finals. | See also: 29 Oct 02 | Africa 24 Oct 02 | Cup of Nations 25 Oct 02 | Africa Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
