Stephan confirms Senegal approach

Guy Stephan, a former assistant coach of France, says he is considering an approach from Senegal to take charge of their national team.

Stephan, who currently holds a development post within the French FA, said he was having to think long and hard about becoming the Lions' coach.

"I've been contacted by the Senegalese Federation. The only thing is I really enjoy my job here, so I'll have to reflect on the situation", he said.

The 45-year-old has spent his entire career in France, playing at Guingamp, Rennes and Le Havre, before going on to coach Lyon and Bordeaux.

He joined the French national team in 1998 at assistant coach until taking up his job with the FA after this year's World Cup.

Senegal have stated that they want to employ another French coach after Bruno Metsu led them to the quarter-finals in Korea and Japan.

Metsu quit after the Senegalese FA refused to allow him to take a ten month break to coach in the United Arab Emirates.

Metsu's assistant, Abdoulaye Sarr, and former Senegalese international Jules Bocand are currently running the side.
