| Monday, 21 October, 2002, 12:29 GMT 13:29 UK Algeria targets Leekens ![]() Belgian George Leekens could be the next Algeria coach Former Belgium coach George Leekens looks set to be named coach of the Algerian national team. French sports paper L'Equipe reports that Leekens is in pole position to become national team coach and technical director. Abdelhamid Zouba has been in interim charge of the Fennecs since Rabah Madjer was sacked in May but the Algerian Football Federation has been looking for a permanent replacement. Leekens met Mohammed Laib, vice-president of the Algerian federation, before Algeria's recent 4-1 Nations Cup qualifying win over Chad. In addition to the national team, which he led in 1994, the Belgian has managed Anderlecht and Bruges.
