Malawi FA gets brief reprieve
Sheriffs take away furniture from the Malawi FA office
Furniture was taken away in a truck

The Malawi FA which had most of its assets seized on Monday because of huge unpaid debts has managed to secure a court order allowing the goods to be returned.

FA lawyer Meyer Chisanga asked the High Court in Blantyre to rule that the seized property be returned while the FA came up with a proposal to settle its debts.

Chisanga told the Daily Times newspaper he would be making another application to the court requesting that the FA be allowed to pay the debt in small instalments.

As Malawians were celebrating victory over neighbours Zambia in the regional Cosafa Castle Cup semi-final match played at the weekend, High Court of Malawi sheriffs moved in to seize their assets.

In total they impounded a 16 seater Mazda mini-bus, a Mistubishi Pajero, a computer, a photocopier and some office furniture.

Sheriffs moved in because of a $30,000 debt owed to a local hotel which had been accommodating the Malawi national football team for the past two years.

FA President John Zingale said on Monday that his association was working very hard to raise funds for settling the debt.
