Malawi FA has assets seized
Sheriffs take away furniture from the Malawi FA office
Furniture was taken away in a truck

Malawi's Football Association has suffered the embarrassment of having its property seized by sheriffs for non payment of debts.

As Malawians were celebrating victory over neighbours Zambia in the regional Cosafa Castle Cup semi-final match played at the weekend, High Court of Malawi sheriffs moved in.

In total they impounded from the Malawi Football Association a 16 seater Mazda mini-bus, a Mistubishi Pajero, a computer, a photocopier and some office furniture.

The sheriffs acted due to the FA's failure to pay a 2.5million Malawi Kwacha (approximately 30,000 US Dollars) debt owed to a local hotel, accumulated from national team accommodation over a period of two years.

The FA has been given 14 days to settle the outstanding debt or risk having the seized property sold to raise money for settling the debt.

FA President John Zingale said his association was working very hard to raise funds for settling the debt.

Zingale said his association has huge debts accumulated over long period dating back to the time of his predecessors.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Moses Dossi has announced that the victorious Malawi national football team will be hosted for breakfast by Malawi's President, Bakili Muluzi.

Dossi said the date for the audience will be announced later.
