Madjer is disgusted at the way he was dismissed from his job last May. It was the third time that the former African footballer of the year had been in charge of the Desert Warriors. "You know, this affair has upset my whole family. It is really weighing heavily on me," Madjer said at a press conference he held at his residence. Madjer was sacked after an article appeared in the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, in which he was quoted criticising officials of the Algerian Football Federation. Although the newspaper subsequently wrote to the federation admitting it concocted the quotes, Madjer did not get a reprieve. The ex-Porto player says the federation has proposed to give him three months salary as a pay-off, even though he had over four years left on his contract. As a consequence, Madjer is preparing to sue the Algerian authorities. "I am going to appeal to the [Algerian] Sports Arbitration Tribunal, as well as to Fifa, to make sure my rights, which are set out in the contract with the federation, are respected," Madjer said. "I kept quiet the first two times (in 1995 and 1999) when the federal bureau and then the then Minister of Sports and Youth kicked me out of the job, because I wanted to preserve the good image of Algerian football. "This time I am not going to abandon my rights, which I will defend till the end," Madjer warned. | See also: 22 May 02 | Africa 08 May 02 | Africa 26 Apr 02 | Africa Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
