Legendary former Brazil right-back Carlos Alberto Torres is the new coach of Egyptian side Zamalek, the Cairo giants have confirmed.

The Zamalek job is Carlos Alberto's second in Africa, having previously briefly been in charge of Nigeria's national team in 1995.

  Carlos Alberto's CV
1983 - Flamengo (BRA)
1984 - Fluminese (BRA)
1985 - Corinthians (BRA)
1986 - Clube Nautico Capibaribe (BRA)
1987 - Miami Sharks (USA)
1993 - Botafogo (BRA)
1994 - Fluminese (BRA)
1995 - Nigeria
1997 - Botafogo (BRA)
1998 - Clube Atletico Mineriro (BRA)
1999 - Botafogo (BRA)
2000 - Oman
2001 - Desportiva Cabonfirense (BRA)
2001 - Flamengo (BRA)
2002 - Zamalek (EGY)
The 57-year-old takes over from German Otto Pfeister, who was sacked after the side failed to hold onto the Egyptian League and Caf Cup Winners' Cup titles that they won last year.

A humiliating 6-1 defeat to Zamalek's arch-rivals Al Ahly was a sledgehammer into the last nail in Pfeister's coffin.

Torres will lead the club into the new season, starting with their opening Caf Champions League match against ASEC from Ivory Coast on 2 August.

Zamalek are in Group B alongside with Tunisian giants Esperence and Costa Do Sol from Mozambique.

The new coach will receive US $150,000 a year, in addition to a bonus of US $20,000 should he leads the team to any titles.
