| Stewart fined for dissent ![]() Stewart stood his ground after being given out Alec Stewart will lose 20% of his match fee for showing dissent to umpire Peter Willey following his dismissal in the final Test. Stewart stood his ground believing he was not out after being caught behind off the bowling of Shane Warne. He was called to a meeting after the end of the third day's play with Talat Ali, the ICC's match referee, England coach Duncan Fletcher, captain Nasser Hussain and the umpires to be informed of his punishment. "Alec Stewart was reported by the umpires following today's play after being given out caught behind," revealed Ali in a statement. "He stood his ground for a short period before walking off and indicated he did not agree with the decision." Stewart is the first England player to be disciplined for such an offence since Graeme Hick was given a suspended one-match sentence for showing dissent in the first Test defeat by Sri Lanka at Galle last February. |
