| Wednesday, 3 July, 2002, 16:33 GMT 17:33 UK Atri blossoms on debut Trent Bridge, day one of three (close): Nottinghamshire 149-3 (40 overs) v West Indies A Vikram Atri struck an unbeaten half-century on debut for Nottinghamshire on a rain-affected first day against West Indies A at Trent Bridge. Atri, 19 years old, was 57 not out when play was called off after 40 overs, Notts reaching 149 for three at the close.
The County outfit got off to a solid start, posting 81 for the loss of one wicket in the morning session after winning the toss and electing to bat. The opening stand had realised 55 before Tino Best levelled the stumps of Guy Welton, who counted seven boundaries in an entertaining 50-ball 43. Atri then shared in a 62-run partnership with 17-year-old wicket-keeper Balal Shafayat, who made 27 before falling leg before to Jermaine Lawson. Lawson soon struck again to send Kevin Pietersen on his way for one, leaving time for Atri to notch his 50 before the heavens opened.
