| Friday, 28 June, 2002, 16:45 GMT 17:45 UK Windies A crumble to defeat The West Indies A bowlers were let down by the batsmen Tour match, Derby, day three: Derbyshire 238 & 233 beat West Indies A 220 & 106 by 145 runs West Indies A produced a dismal second innings batting performance as they slumped to defeat at the County Ground. Dwayne Bravo made 48, but tail-ender Marlon Black (16) was the only other batsman to reach double figures as they were bowled out in just 31.2 overs. Derbyshire were only 130 ahead at the start of play with six wickets standing, but they managed to extend their lead to 251 and that proved more than sufficient. Seamer Neil Gunter took four for 14 and there two wickets each for Tom Lungley, Paul Aldred and Lian Wharton. The tourists failed to make an early breakthrough during the morning session as Dominic Hewson (47) and Jamie Pyemont (34) built a fifth wicket stand of 59. Both were eventually bowled by Jermaine Lawson, who finished with three for 63, and the only significant resistance thereafter came from Luke Sutton, who batted for almost an hour to make 28. Black ended their innings by having Gunter lbw for a duck, giving him seven wickets in the match. The West Indies A target looked a reasonable one against a side made up largely of second XI players, but Daren Ganga and Devon Smith went without a run on the board. Runako Morton was also dismissed for nought and when Donvanon Pagon was lbw to Gunter for six, the tourists were 11 for four. Bravo counter-attacked by hammering 10 fours in an exciting 66-ball knock, before he was trapped in front by Aldred. But by then three other wickets had already fallen and it did not take Derbyshire long to wrap up the match as Wharton bowled Sulieman Benn and Lawson.
