Tour match, Derby, day one of four:
Derbyshire 238 v West Indies A 21-1

Derbyshire survived a dismal start to fight their way back into contention in their clash against the touring West Indies A side after the first day at the County Ground.

Having elected to bat, the hosts found themselves in all sorts of trouble on 76 for six before Luke Sutton's knock of 80 helped Derbyshire to 238.

Openers Steve Stubbings and Andrew Gait had started well, moving the score onto 40 before the collapse began.

Gait was first to fall to Windies bowler Reon King, and Stubbings soon followed, caught by wicketkeeper Keith Hibbert off Marlon Black.

Derbyshire's problems continued with the next four wickets falling for just 26 runs but Sutton and Tom Lungley fought back with a partnership of 62.

Lungley weighed in with 19 and Paul Aldred also added 29, only to be caught by Hibbert off Jermaine Lawson.

Sutton and Neil Gunter then put on 39 for the ninth wicket, before Gunter was bowled by Sulieman Benn, and the innings was wrapped up when Sutton edged Black through to Hibbert.

The tourists' innings started badly when they lost opener Devon Smith for eight but they held on to reach 21 for one at stumps.
