Knight kick-starts cup campaign
Nick Knight
Knight faced just 114 deliveries for an unbeaten 126
At Edgbaston: Warwickshire 263-6 after 41 overs (2 pts) beat Somerset 78-5 after 19 overs by 94 runs (D/L method)

Nick Knight's explosive century led Warwickshire to a rain-hit victory over Somerset in their Benson & Hedges Cup opener at Edgbaston

The Bears piled up a total of 263 for six in just 41 overs, with Knight playing the major role with an unbeaten 126.

And the bad weather returned to hand the hosts victory by 94 runs on Duckworth/Lewis calculations

The left-handed opener faced just 114 deliveries, with 16 fours and a six.

And the fact that Warwickshire's second-highest scorer was Ian Bell, with 31, proved Knight's dominance.

Neil Smith helped Knight get off to a decent start, making a swift 28 in an opening stand of 61.

Dougie Brown
Brown took three wickets as Somerset slumped
And Keith Piper watched from the non-striker's end for much of an unbroken seventh wicket partnership.

The wicket-keeper made 11 not out in a stand worth 39.

With continual showers, the visitors' reply never really managed to gain momentum.

Dougie Brown bagged three wickets as Somerset limped to 78 for five before rain saved further suffering.
