Windies clinch last-ball win
Ramnaresh Sarwan is delighted
Sarwan hit the winning four off the last ball
First one-day international, Jamshedpur: West Indies (285/6 off 50 overs) beat India (283/6 off 50 overs) by four wickets

West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the one-day series after a final-ball victory over India.

But the game in Jamshedpur was marred by crowd violence.

Bottles were thrown onto the pitch and fires lit in the stands three overs from the end, with the West Indies 12 runs short of victory.

Both teams left the field while the crowd was quelled, and after a 15-minute delay the tourists almost blew their advantage.

But Ramnaresh Sarwan hit the final delivery to the cover boundary to complete the job, finishing unbeaten on 83 from 89 deliveries, with six fours and three sixes.

Wavell Hinds
Hinds laid the foundations with a knock of 93
Earlier, Ajit Agarkar's career-best 95 took India from a shaky start to a challenging 283 for six.

But the Caribbean side fought back thanks to Wavell Hinds' 93, and a fifth wicket partnership worth 71 runs in just 51 balls between Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

The tourists overcame the loss of Chris Gayle in the sixth over with a second-innings partnership of 86 between Hinds and Marlon Samuels.

  Top ODI wicket-takers
Wasim Akram (Pak) 479 wkts in 343 matches
Waqar Younis (Pak) 395 in 248
Anil Kumble (Ind) 300 in 233
Muttiah Muralitharan (SL) 297 in 200
Shane Warne (Aus) 285 in 189
Anil Kumble finally accounted for Samuels after a boundary-filled 51, in the process becoming only the third bowler to claim 300 wickets in one-day internationals.

Hinds and Sarwan added 87 in a period of consolidation before the opener edged left-armer Ashish Nehra behind to end a 107-ball knock.

Chanderpaul was dismissed in the penultimate over after an 18-ball 23, top-edging a top off left-armer Ashish Nehra.

And Ridley Jacobs was run out for nought in a desperate attempt to hand the strike back to Sarwan before Mahendra Nagamootoo helped complete the win.

The first 12 overs of the match saw India struggling at 49 for two before Agarkar, sent in as a pinch-hitter, shared in a 98-run third wicket stand with VVS Laxman, who hit 47.

Rahul Dravid, with 46 not out, then joined the all-rounder in putting on 75 for the fourth wicket.

And a late burst that brought 69 in the last 10 overs set a stiff target on a slow wicket, with Mohammad Kaif smashing 31 not out from just 18 balls.

Agarkar, whose previous best was an unbeaten 67 against Zimbabwe two years ago, cracked two sixes and 11 fours in a 101-ball knock.
