Centuries from Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman secured a draw in the final Test of the series, which India have won 2-0. Laxman completed his fourth Test hundred at the Eden Gardens venue he has come to love after India opted to bat on until the end. Sourav Ganguly declined the possible declaration that would have given his bowlers a faint chance to push for a series whitewash. West Indies, after suffering huge defeats in the first two Tests, had hopes of a victory at tea on Saturday. Having taken a 139-run first innings lead they then reduced India to 87 for four. But Tendulkar shared in a record 214-run fifth wicket stand with Laxman, who batted with restraint in support of his more aggressive partner. Tendulkar, who faced 299 balls in his seven-hour knock studded with 26 fours, did, however, strain his hamstring. He has been ruled out of the one-day series starting on Wednesday. West Indies skipper Carl Hooper ultimately turned to nine bowlers, everyone in the team having a go except Wavell Hinds and wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs. Marlon Samuels and Shiv Chanderpaul claimed a rare wicket each after Cameron Cuffy finally ended Tendulkar's innings.
