Pakistan look to old guard
Saqlain Mushtaq and Faisal Iqbal after the third Test
Pakistan's inexperienced side collapsed to Australia
Veterans Wasim Akram and Saeed Anwar could return to Test action immediately, following Pakistan's 3-0 whitewash at the hands of Australia.

The pair were left out of the squad for the series, although reports have differed on whether they had asked to rest ahead of next February's World Cup.

Leading batsmen Inzamam-ul Haq and Yousuf Youhana missed the series because of injuries, leaving an inexperienced middle order to face the World Test champions.

It was a tough series against the best team in the world

And all-rounder Abdur Razzaq broke his wrist during the second Test, which saw Pakistan bowled out for record lows of 59 and 53 in a humiliating innings defeat.

And the third Test also resulted in an innings defeat, when Pakistan were bowled out for a second innings 203 in Sharjah on Tuesday.

"With the World Cup so near, some of the older players may have to come back and we have to give them some cricket before that," Waqar said.

Pakistan embark on an African tour of next month, with two Tests against Zimbabwe and three against South Africa.

Waqar and coach Richard Pybus will meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Tauqir Zia and the selectors soon to discuss the defeat against Australia.

And the skipper said he would happily agree with a plan to have separate teams and captains for Tests and one-day cricket, if it was good for the team.

"There have emerged some young players who are the future of Pakistan cricket and the experience of playing against Australia will have done them a world of good.

"I have faith in these youngsters and it was evident they need more cricket to match themselves against the best.

"Pakistan are capable of playing against any team, but playing against Australia was very tough."
