Pakistan crashed to defeat by an innings and 198 runs at the hands of Australia after breaking their record lowest total in successive innings.

Their first-innings mark of 59 stood for just a day before Shane Warne's four wickets saw the second innings subside for 53.

It was the 19th lowest ever total in Tests and Pakistan's aggregate 112 is the fourth lowest.

Just two batsmen reached double figures in an innings lasting less than 25 overs as the series was ceded to Steve Waugh's men.

And there was more bad news for Pakistan when Abdur Razzaq was hit on the wrist by pace bowler Brett Lee - the all-rounder will be out for six weeks.

Pakistan were in trouble from the first over, when Taufeeq Umar was run out without facing a ball, victim to a poor call from partner Imran Nazir.

Glenn McGrath trapped Younis Khan leg-before for nought soon after tea and Warne had Nazir caught behind by Adam Gilchrist for 16.

Andy Bichel, who came in for the injured Jason Gillespie, dismissed Misbah-ul Haq and Rashid Latif to catches by the Waugh twins.

And Warne then grabbed three of the last four wickets, ending the match by trapping Pakistani captain Waqar Younis leg-before.

Hayden hit his ninth Test century
Australia's 310 came courtesy of a ninth Test century from Matthew Hayden.

In temperatures of up to 51C, Hayden batted for all but one ball of the innings, facing 255 deliveries in seven hours for his 119.

Damien Martyn contributed 34 in a a 76-run stand for the fifth wicket before he was caught behind by Umar off Razzaq.

Hayden was finally undone trying to hit out against spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who finished with figures of four for 83.

And Razzaq took his third wicket with the very next delivery, trapping Glenn McGrath lbw.
