| Saturday, 12 October, 2002, 14:50 GMT 15:50 UK Waqar disappointed by heavy loss ![]() Waqar and Waugh had a match of different emotions Pakistan captain Waqar Younis advised his team to "forget this match as fast as they can" after losing by an innings and 198 runs in the second Test against Australia at Sharjah. Australia bowled Pakistan out for humiliating totals of 59 and 53 in each innings - both scores a record low. Pakistan were missing experienced batsmen Inzamam-ul Haq, Yousuf Youhana and Saeed Anwar for the match. "We did not play well, the batsmen played poorly. Their inexperience was exposed by a professional side," Waqar said. "But we have to think about the next Test and save our skins. We never lost a Test in two days before."
Australian captain Steve Waugh said he was surprised at how easily Pakistan capitulated. But he promised his side will show no mercy in the third Test that starts on 19 October. "There will be no sympathy in the third Test because we are looking at a clean sweep," he said. "It was a clinical and professional finish. It's hard to understand why Pakistan's batting capitulated. "It's a bit concerning that one of the best sides in the game goes down in the 50s twice in one match. "We played exactly as we had planned, but never thought Pakistan would succumb so easily. "We pressurised them all through the two innings and our four bowlers bowled very, very well. "I think we are playing our best cricket since defeating South Africa twice within one year." |
