Late double lifts Windies
Collins celebrates the wicket of Mark Richardson
Collins breathed new life into West Indies
Second Test, Grenada, day one: New Zealand 208-5 (at close) v West Indies

Opening batsman Mark Richardson fell five runs short of a century as two late wickets revitalised West Indies.

Left-armer Pedro Collins dismissed Richardson and Daniel Vettori in successive overs shortly before the close as the National Stadium became cricket's newest Test venue.

Richardson hit a six and 10 fours during his innings and shared a fourth wicket stand of 123 with Nathan Astle, who was 69 not out at the close.

New Zealand lead the two-match series 1-0, having won the opening game in Barbados by 204 runs.

West Indies skipper Carl Hooper chose to put the tourists in after winning the toss, but his team to wait until the 21st over for their first success.

Lou Vincent opened his account by hooking Collins for six and put on 61 with Richardson before he was bowled off the inside edge by Cameron Cuffy for 24.

Richardson helped himself to three successive fours off Adam Sanford as New Zealand reached 77 for one at lunch, but their progress was halted by a double blow soon after the resumption.

Skipper Stephen Fleming was caught by Brian Lara off Collins for six and Chris Harris followed for a duck.

He was slightly unlucky after playing a ball from Hooper onto his foot and the rebound enabled alert wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs to make the catch.

Astle and Richardson avoided unnecessary risks as they re-built the innings before stepping up the tempo in the final session.

Leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo, recalled to the side in place of Darrell Powell, was hit for two sixes by Astle in the 74th over, and the batsman followed that with two fours off the same bowler soon after.

Richardson was in sight of his first Test century since last December - and the third of his career - when Collins returned to the attack.

He dug in a bouncer which the left-hander hooked, only for Chris Gayle to take a running catch at fine leg

Richardson's disappointment was obvious and it was compounded when Collins found the bottom edge of night-watchman Vettori's bat to end the day with three for 29 from 19 overs.
