NZ savour 'fantastic' win
New Zealand's Man of the Series and Man of the Match
Starring roles: Shane Bond and Scott Styris
New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming celebrated a "fantastic" achievement by his side following their Test series victory in the West Indies.

Having won the opening match in Barbados by an innings, they hung on for a draw on the final day of the second Test in Grenada, with debutant Scott Styris adding 69 not out to his first innings hundred.

"It's one of the highlights of my career. You talk about gloss - this is as glossy as it gets," said Fleming.

It was not plain sailing for the Kiwis who were 157 for five at one stage, just 60 runs ahead, before Styris and Robbie Hart made certain of the draw with an unbroken stand of 99.

"In the first hour, I was very concerned. The mood in the dressing room confirmed everyone's feeling that we were in trouble.

"It took a big effort from two inexperienced players to get us out of a hole again," Fleming added.

Styris, only the third New Zealand player to make a hundred and a fifty in his first Test, was named Man of the Match, with pace bowler Shane Bond taking the Man of the Series award.

"I'd give that 10 out of 10 for any Test, let alone a debut. That far outweighed my expectations, but I felt confident," Styris commented.

The result was a setback for West Indies, who put a run of poor results behind them by beating India 2-1 in a recent five-Test series.

"One of the reasons we had problems dismissing the New Zealand lower order is because of the tremendous discipline those guys played with.

"This is something that our lower order has to get better at doing," said coach Roger Harper.
