Tyson returns to the ring in February

Mike Tyson and his second wife have been granted a divorce.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion will pay Monica Turner $6.5m from future earnings.

That figure will rise to $9m if he fails to pay on time.

The deal ends a year-long dispute between Tyson and Turner, who accused the boxer of adultery when she filed for divorce in January 2002.

Tyson was not at the court hearing that completed the divorce, although Turner did attend.

She is a pediatric resident at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington.

Turner was awarded the couple's $4.75m mansion in Farmington, Connecticut, and the $4m Potomac house where she lives.

She also gets custody of their children, Rayna (6) and Amir (5). Tyson keeps his home in Las Vegas.

The couple drafted an earlier settlement that called for Tyson to pay Turner $10m from his June 2002 fight with Lennox Lewis and two future bouts.

Tyson, however, failed to pay $4m of the first $5m owed by 31 July.

After Turner tried to enforce the payment schedule in September, he initially challenged the agreement.

The couple met while Tyson was serving a rape sentence in an Indiana prison. They were married in April 1997 in Bethesda.

The boxer previously was married for a year to actress Robin Givens. That marriage ended in divorce in 1989.

Tyson will return to the ring on 22 February when he takes on Clifford Etienne. It will be his first fight since losing to Lewis.
