Lewis-Francis sets new mark
Mark Lewis-Francis
Lewis-Francis ran a superb time of 10.34 secs
Mark Lewis-Francis set a new 100m indoor record on Thursday at the opening of Birmingham's new High Performance Centre.

The sprinter ran 10.34 seconds, shaving 0.06 seconds off the British record, set seven years ago in Finland by Darren Braithwaite.

It was the perfect way to christen the new 3.3m training centre, which has been funded by National Lottery money.

But Lewis-Francis felt he could run faster still, and had to be persuaded against a second attempt.

He said: "I didn't feel loose enough on that run and I thought I could go faster but my physio didn't think it was a good idea."
