The sprinter ran 10.34 seconds, shaving 0.06 seconds off the British record, set seven years ago in Finland by Darren Braithwaite. It was the perfect way to christen the new �3.3m training centre, which has been funded by National Lottery money. But Lewis-Francis felt he could run faster still, and had to be persuaded against a second attempt.
