| Friday, 7 February, 2003, 08:32 GMT Montgomery ditches coach World 100m record holder Tim Montgomery has ended his association with disgraced coach Charlie Francis.
"I am no longer with Charlie Francis. I am leaving him for the good of the sport, and I am seeking a new coach," said Montgomery. Francis was banned for life from coaching Canadian athletes after Ben Johnson tested positive for steroids following his 100m victory at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Montgomery, who set the men's world record of 9.78 seconds in Paris last year, had been consulting with Francis since late November. But the relationship drew criticism throughout the sport, although Montgomery is adamant neither he nor Jones have done anything wrong. "We just want to end this.
