The Rodney Parade pitch has failed a Boxing Day pitch inspection |
Wrexham's Blue Square Bet Premier clash at Barrow on Tuesday is the latest game to be postponed as the big freeze continues to disrupt with Welsh sport. A referee deems the Holker Street pitch unplayable as Wrexham have not played since 11 February after their Boxing Day game with Altrincham was off. The two Welsh Magners League derbies were postponed as the 27 December match between Dragons v Blues was frozen off. And the Ospreys v Scarlets Boxing Day clash was delayed for 24 hours. Frozen pipes at the Liberty Stadium meant that the sell-out west Wales derby against the Scarlets was postponed until Monday. Newport County's Boxing Day Conference visit to Bath was off but now Dean Holdsworth's men will travel to Kidderminster on 28 December after a Tuesday morning pitch inspection. Monday's Welsh National meet at Chepstow has been delayed to 8 January. And Ffos Las Racecourse officials are confident they will bring jump racing out of the deep freeze on Tuesday. Overnight rain on Boxing Day has helped to melt almost all of the remaining snow on top of protective frost covers. With temperatures forecast to be no lower than four degrees centigrade on Monday night and rising to seven centigrade on Tuesday, the Carmarthenshire course is confident that Tuesday's card will go-ahead. "It's been a good night for us," said clerk of the Ffos Las course Tim Long. "A smattering of snow remains on top of the covers, but that will disappear today. "The ground is fine underneath the covers which will be removed by a team of 30 tomorrow morning. "We're set to race, and at this stage I have no reason even to call a precautionary inspection."
