Clement has been a consistent performer at all the Grand Slams in recent years and has only once failed to make the last 16 at the US Open. The Frenchman is one of the tour's extroverts and seems to thrive on the highly-charged atmosphere at Flushing Meadows.
His best effort to date is making the quarter-finals in 2001, beating Andre Agassi before later falling to Lleyton Hewitt.
He is lightning fast and has enjoyed his best results on hard courts, and relishes playing in front of big crowds.
He has had a couple of epic battles with compatriot Sebastien Grosjean, notably in the semi-finals of the Australian Open two years ago and the second round of the US Open last year.
Injuries have been a problem, but this year the 26-year-old has still managed to make the last 16 at Roland Garros, the last four at Halle and the final at s'Hertogenbosch.
