Mardy Fish comes into the US Open on the back of the best run of results of his life. Just two weeks ago he reached the final of the Masters Series event in Cincinnati, beating David Nalbandian and Rainer Schuettler along the way.
In the final he was unfortunate to lose second- and third-set tie-breaks to best pal Andy Roddick after taking the first set.
It has been a breakthrough year for Fish as he also reached finals earlier in the year at Delray Beach and Nottingham.
He was also the only player to take a set off Roger Federer at Wimbledon when the Swiss beat him in the third round.
Fish's best performances have come on fast courts, whether they be grass or hard, and on current form he should get past the second round for the first time, but is still unlikely to challenge the really big guns.
