Coria has had a stunning year and is by far the most improved player on the tour after two seasons as a solid top 50-performer. Four titles and two runners-up finishes have seen the Argentine storm into the world's top 10.
And, despite not winning the French Open, he is arguably the best clay-courter in the world right now after three successive titles on the surface since Wimbledon.
But all six tournaments at which Coria has reached the final this year have been on clay, and he has yet to prove himself on other surfaces.
And in 10 meetings with the world's top-five players the 21-year-old has just two victories, suggesting there is still some way to go before he is ready to win a Grand Slam.
His best effort yet came at Roland Garros in June, but he went down to a surprise defeat to outsider Martin Verkerk in the semi-finals.
Coria enjoyed a superb run of form on clay in June and July, winning 15 straight matches, but he will find New York's hard courts a tougher proposition.
