"My quarter-final against Canas was the big turning point. I didn't believe I could win until I came through that match," said the Spaniard.

"I was down in then but came back to win. After that I knew I could go all the way."

The final was no classic, though. It was almost as bad as Saturday's women's final.

Ferrero was simply "in a different time-zone" in the first two sets, winning only 10 points in the first set and a meagre eight in the second.

"It was nothing special," said Ferrero.

"I had some problems moving my legs, but it was just that I made too many mistakes."

Virginia tips Serena for Wimbledon

Virginia Wade has tipped Serena Williams to win Wimbledon this year after her French Open victory.

"Serena and Venus are very much the top two just now - they are head and shoulders above the other girls," said the BBC commentator.

"My personal feeling is that Serena has a more complete game, a fabulous serve and is definitely more ambitious than her sister."

"It's really hard to seeing anyone stopping her at Wimbledon. I wouldn't be surprised if we see another all-sister final there.

"With Davenport and Hingis out with injuries, only really Capriati has the game to beat them, but I don't know whether she really believes it when it comes to the crunch."

Perry, rumoured to be dating Jennifer Capriati, has stayed on in Paris since her departure on Thursday evening.

He has been seen sitting religiously at courtside, even during late night doubles matches when the Centre Court crowd can often be counted in single figures and he was even there at Sunday's junior finals.

He caused a stir there as fans flocked for his autograph while he was sitting courtside, thus interrupting proceedings on court for several minutes.

He was even spotted sitting in the Williams family camp for the all-sister final.

That was a sight that will probably not go down well with Capriati.

Gasquet and Widjaja celebrate junior titles

France's 15-year-old sensation Richard Gasquet swept to the boys' singles title with a 6-0 6-1 drubbing of countryman Laurent Recouderc.

Gasquet now returns to the senior game where he has a wild-card at Queen's this week and a spot in Wimbledon qualifying.

"I've never played on grass before. My first match is on Tuesday and I only start practising on Monday," said Gasquet.

Angelique Widjaja added to her Wimbledon crown with a hard-fought 3-6 6-1 6-4 victory over American Ashley Harkleroad.

"I was so relieved to win. I called my mum and dad to tell them after the match," said the Indonesian player.

"They were so happy as they had been really nervous watching it point by point on the internet back home in Indonesia."
