Bjorkman returned to the world's top 30 with a surprise appearance in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters at the end of last season. The Swede wins most of his titles on the doubles tour with Todd Woodbridge - but he continues to be a dangerous singles player.
Happy at the net as well as trading blows from the baseline, Bjorkman ran into form on grass last year, reaching the semi-finals in Nottingham and the last eight at Wimbledon.
He followed that with a fourth-round appearance at the US Open.
A three-times doubles champion at the Australian Open, Bjorkman clearly enjoys the atmosphere in Melbourne as he has twice reached the quarter-finals in singles.
Most recently, he beat Tim Henman in 2002 before losing to eventual champion Thomas Johansson.
His preparations for this year's Australian Open went well, beating world number one Andy Roddick on his way to the quarter-finals in Doha.
