Coria had a stunning season last year and was by far the most improved player on the tour after two seasons as a solid top-50 performer. Five tournament victories, including a Masters Series event in Hamburg, and an end-of-season ranking of five is a remarkable return for the youngster.
He staked his claim as the best clay-courter in the world, bouncing back from semi-final disappointment at the French Open to win three successive titles on the surface.
However, he is yet to make a breakthrough on hardcourts.
A promising run at the US Open was ended by Andre Agassi in the quarter-finals and he won only won match at the season-ending Masters Cup.
However, he did pick up his first indoor title in Basle in October - albeit with a walkover against David Nalbandian in the final.
Coria is one of the quickest players around and his ability to scrap from the back of the court is unmatched by any of his contemporaries, bar perhaps Lleyton Hewitt.
