Pippa Horn puts US Open on targets list

Norfolk tennis youngster Pippa Horn has added a junior US Open place to her Wimbledon ambitions for next year.

The West Harling 15-year-old enjoyed a successful summer, winning three ranking tournaments in July and the Junior National Championships, aged 14.

And the world under-18 number 365 told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I'm trying to get my ranking up so I can get to the US Open outright.

"But hopefully my Wimbledon appearance will be by a wild card."

Horn topped off her year by claiming the Young Sports Personality prize at the Norfolk Sports Awards earlier this month.

But she says her victory at the Junior Nationals in August - secured by beating 17-year-old top seed Jennifer Ren - has given her the belief that she can go on to match previous winners, such as Sue Barker and Anne Keothavong.

I didn't think I'd win it so young. I knew I could, but I didn't think I would

"It gives me even more confidence to know that those who have won nationals have then gone on to do great things," she added.

"I didn't think I'd win it so young. I knew I could, but I didn't think I would.

"I was really happy with that, it's much further forward than we though it would happen."
