Horn defeated second seed Lucy Brown on her way to the title |
Norfolk's Pippa Horn has set her sights on Wimbledon after her win in the AEGON Junior National Championships. Horn, 14, won the under-18 title with a final victory over 17-year-old top seed Jennifer Ren in Roehampton. Now the youngster is planning for next year and aims to raise her ITF ranking to qualify for the Wimbledon Juniors. She told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Wimbledon would be great, it's like my ultimate dream. At the moment I just feel so confident that anything can happen." Speaking at the recent Hunstanton Tennis Tournament, where her brother Charlie was in action, she said: "I'm going to try and get my ITF ranking up so I can qualify for the National Championships out right, rather than getting a wild card. | I've got the best coaches, the best team around me and I'm obviously improving and doing well, so what's the point in really changing it |
"At the moment I'm about 350 but I've only played a few ITF's. I've only just been playing those tournaments because I've just come out of the under-14 age group. "If I can get my ranking up to the top 100 then I would have a big chance of getting in." Tennis is a family affair for the Horns. Not only does Pippa play doubles with her brother but her main coach is still her mum, Judy, who first put a racquet in her hand at the age of three. She admits she has been tempted to move away from the home-grown approach. She said: "My whole family's been thinking about it but we've just thought that I've got the best coaches, the best team around me and I'm obviously improving and doing well, so what's the point in really changing it?"
