Heather Watson is seeded seventh in the competition

Guernsey's Heather Watson is through to the last 16 of the singles at the Toronto ITF tournament.

The 18-year-old, who is the tournament's seventh seed, beat Alexandra Mueller of the USA 7-6 6-4 in the first round.

Watson will now face either Canada's Katarena Palivets or American Jan Abaza in the next round.

Watson and partner Christina McHale are set to play their first round doubles match on Tuesday.

The duo will face the tournament's number one seeds, Slovakia's Andreja Klepac and Canada's Marie-Eve Pelletier.
