Keothavong had not dropped a set on her way to the final in Tallinn |
Top seed Anne Keothavong was forced to withdraw during Sunday's final of the $25,000 Tallinn ITF tournament because of a hip injury. The British number three was losing 6-4 4-1 to second seed Elena Bovina of Russia when she retired in Estonia. Keothavong revealed on social networking site Twitter that her hip "gave way" during the opening set. "Wasn't comfortable moving and landing on my serve and was just getting worse so I retired," added the 26-year-old. Despite the disappointing conclusion to Keothavong's campaign, the Briton had produced a number of dominant performances in Tallinn, failing to drop a set in her passage to Sunday's final. A first-round win over Denmark's Malou Ejdesgaard was followed by victories over China's Jing-Jing Lu and fellow Briton Anna Fitzpatrick before a 6-0 6-4 semi-final defeat of Slovakia's Kristina Kucova. In the doubles, Britain's Melanie South and Emma Laine of Finland, the top seeds, beat second seeds Lu and Sheng-Nan Sun from China 6-3 6-4 to take the title.
