Top seed Caroline Wozniacki delighted her home fans by beating Czech Klara Zakopalova 6-2 7-6 (7-5) in the final of the first ever Danish Open.

Wozniacki took just 78 minutes to dispose of the seventh seed, breaking twice to easily win the first set.

Chasing her eighth WTA title, the Dane went a break down in the second set but fought back to win the match after a tie-break, which she took 7-5.

The victory was a convincing display after she struggled in earlier rounds.

The world number three had been pushed to three sets in each of her three previous games on the way to the final.

"I think it's great for Danish tennis that this event happened, and it's just nice that so many people came here to support me," said Wozniacki.

"I've got a big stretch of tournaments coming up, but I felt like I needed a lot of matches - my ankle is no longer an issue and when I'm healthy I feel like I really want to play."

Zakopalova will take heart from a competition which saw her defeat second seed Li Na of China in the semi-finals.
