Keothavong (left) and Baltacha both fought back after losing the first set |
Great Britain enjoyed a good day at the Danish Open as both Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong won their first round matches on Tuesday. Baltacha eased past Marina Erakovic 3-6 6-3 6-1 while Keothavong also won in three sets, defeating Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden 1-6 6-4 6-3. Baltacha will play second seed Li Na of China, who beat Kristyna Pliskova 7-6 (7-5) 6-3, in the second round. Top seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark beat Croatian Petra Martic 6-3 6-2. Wozniacki faces Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic in round two. A relieved Baltacha said she was "really delighted" to have come through against Erakovic. "I didn't start very well and felt I only got going in the middle of the second set," she said. "By the third set I felt much more comfortable and really stepped it up." Baltacha beat Li earlier this year at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and is "really looking forward" to playing the Chinese player once again. "It'll be our fourth meeting and I have absolutely nothing to lose and it all to gain," she said. "I know I will have to play my best tennis to give myself a chance of causing an upset."
