Keothavong is currently ranked 155th in the world

British pair Anne Keothavong and Anna Smith are through to the second round of the Danish Open women's doubles.

The duo secured an impressive 6-4 7-5 victory over second seeds Cara Black of Zimbabwe and her partner Marina Erakovic of New Zealand.

They will next play either Danish pair Malou Ejdesgaard and Caroline Wozniacki or Yvonne Meusburger of Austria and her Swiss partner Stefanie Voegele.

Keothavong and Elena Baltacha open their singles campaigns on Tuesday.

Keothavong plays Swede Sofia Arvidsson in the first round while Baltacha plays Erakovic.

If Baltacha wins she will face the number two seed, China's Li Na, in the second round.

The world number 11 beat Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Li broke Pliskova in the fourth game of the first set to lead 3-1, but the 241st-ranked Pliskova broke back to force a tiebreaker.

Li broke once in the second set to close out the match.

Briton Heather Watson failed to make it past the qualifying round, losing 6-7 6-2 6-2 to Greek Eleni Danilidou.
