Henman set for scan after injury
Tim Henman
Henman was within three points of victory in the second set
Tim Henman will have a scan on Friday after picking up a leg injury during his Swiss Indoors defeat to Stanislas Wawrinka on Thursday.

Henman damaged his right ankle in the loss in Basle, which probably meant an end to his season, assuming he does not get a Paris Masters wild card.

"I'm not 100% sure what it is," the 32-year-old told BBC Sport.

"In the second set, I felt a few sharp pains, especially in longer sprints along the baseline."

On Thursday the British number two lost 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to Wawrinka.

Henman raced through the first set and broke twice in a row from 2-2 in the opening set to clinch it in exactly 30 minutes.

But the Swiss who, with a ranking of 40 is two places below Henman, picked up his game in the second set and had a chance to break the Briton at 4-3.

Henman held on and looked set for a straight-sets win when he went a mini-break up in the ensuing tie-break.

However, three stunning points in a row from 21-year-old Wawrinka forced a deciding set.

The players traded breaks in the third before Henman hurt his right ankle during a rally.

It seemed to impede the 32-year-old and Wawrinka took full advantage to break for 5-4 and a chance to serve for the match.

Henman saved three match points and even had a chance to break again himself.

But Wawrinka managed to convert his fourth match point to clinch victory and a quarter-final meeting with second seed David Nalbandian of Argentina.

An over-rule in the final game caused Henman to argue with the umpire and the Briton did not shake hands with the official at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, Henman believes Andy Murray was right to suggest that recalling him to the British Davis Cup squad would deny younger players the chance to represent their country.

Henman has yet to decide whether he will come out of international retirement to play alongside Murray in April in Holland.

"Andy made a valid point," Henman said. "I'm not going to play forever and maybe this is the time when the younger players should step up for the Davis Cup.

"Sooner or later they are going to have to play without Greg Rusedski or myself. Whether that should happen next April I don't know, we'll talk about it nearer the time."
