Lindsay Davenport secured her fourth title of the year when she defeated Francesca Schiavone in the final of the Wismilak International in Bali. The American top seed was too strong for her Italian opponent as she sealed a 6-2 6-4 victory.
Davenport did not drop a set all week but has not earned enough points to regain the world number one spot.
"It's tough sometimes to play four weeks in a row and still to come out on top, I'm satisfied," said Davenport.
"I've played a lot of matches the last few weeks and I felt this whole week was a success.
"It's not always easy to win when you're expected to win. I felt I handled that very well this week."
Davenport, who has also won in Dubai, Amelia Island and New Haven this year, made the perfect start when she broke Schiavone in the opening game.
The tenacious Schiavone fought back from 0-40 down to hold serve in the fifth game but a backhand error gave Davenport another break to make the score 5-2.
Davenport also broke in the opening game of the second set but lost serve in the fourth and had to wait before making the vital breakthrough when the score was 4-4.
"In the second set I tried to serve better and to do better with my return and make her play what she doesn't want," said Schiavone.
"I tried to run faster, but it's not easy when she hits the ball with such good timing."
