Russian Ekaterina Bychkova claimed another big victory with success over eighth seed Sania Mirza in round one of the Wismilak International in Bali. Bychkova, who beat compatriot Svetlana Kuznetzova at the US Open, defeated the inconsistent Indian in straight sets.
Mirza came off second best in some fiercely-contested rallies, eventually going down 6-3 6-2.
There were also wins for Australian third seed Alicia Molik and fifth seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld from Germany.
