Maria Sharapova warmed up for the defence of her Wimbledon title in style with victory in the final of the DFS Classic in Birmingham on Sunday. The Russian top seed was taken to a third set for a third time in the tournament by Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Montenegro.
But Sharapova cruised through the decider to win 6-2 4-6 6-1 and retain the title she won last year.
It was the 18-year-old's 17th win in a row on grass and her 10th career title.
