Davenport puts retirement on hold
Lindsay Davenport
World number one Lindsay Davenport plans to delay her retirement and play in next January's Australian Open.

There had been speculation that the 28-year-old, who regained the top spot for the sixth time on Monday, might bow out at the end of the season.

But the in-form American, who has won seven titles this year, has put any plans to quit on hold.

"I'm looking forward to Australia and trying to win - that's definitely the way I'm headed right now," she said.

"I feel like after a couple of years I've gotten my game back and my confidence back."

Davenport, who won the Australian Open title in 2000, said she had worked out a provisional schedule through to next March.
