World number one Lindsay Davenport plans to delay her retirement and play in next January's Australian Open. There had been speculation that the 28-year-old, who regained the top spot for the sixth time on Monday, might bow out at the end of the season.
But the in-form American, who has won seven titles this year, has put any plans to quit on hold.
"I'm looking forward to Australia and trying to win - that's definitely the way I'm headed right now," she said.
"I feel like after a couple of years I've gotten my game back and my confidence back."
Davenport, who won the Australian Open title in 2000, said she had worked out a provisional schedule through to next March.
