Anastasia Myskina upset new world number one Lindsay Davenport to reach the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. The French Open champion won 6-4 7-6 (7-1), and meets Elena Dementieva on Sunday in a repeat of the Paris final.
Myskina saved four break points in the ninth game before breaking Davenport in the 10th, and battled back from a break down in the second set.
French and US Open runner-up Dementieva beat fellow Russian Elena Bovina 6-4 7-5 in the second semi-final.
Davenport admitted after her defeat to Myskina that she had not been 100% fit.
"I wanted to keep the points short today as I wasn't feeling well," said the American.
"I made too many errors at the wrong time as I had to go for the big shots because I knew I couldn't stay very long on the court today. "I had a hard time with my chest and with my head. I wasn't 100% ready for the game today."
Myskina said: "I desperately wanted to win today. It helped me a lot that Lindsay was feeling ill, while I have just recovered from a fever.
"The surface is also rather slow which is better for me as Lindsay doesn't like long rallies."
