Henman has been runner-up three times at Queen's Day four photos

Tim Henman reached the quarter-finals at the Stella Artois Championship despite looking far from his best against France's Cyril Saulnier, ranked 114 in the world.

The seventh seed dropped serve twice in the first set before taking it to a tie-breaker, which he lost 7-5 after coming back from 5-0 down.

Henman levelled the match by taking the second set 6-3 with one break.

He struck at 3-3 in the deciding set and held on, despite some aggressive play from Saulnier, to take it 6-3.

"I wasted a lot of opportunities and made life very difficult for myself - it was frustrating but I'm pleased that I managed to turn it around," said the British number one.

"I have to try to be more consistent and the rhythm of my serves has a lot to do with that.

"But I'm getting through more matches and I feel like I am getting more aggressive.

"I'm competing well but I can't take anything for granted because I haven't had enough games to do that yet."

Henman, who struggled again with his serve on a surface which he believes is too slow to showcase the best of his game, will play France's Anthony Dupuis in the quarter-finals.
