Samuel claimed misrepresentation of sale and loss of earnings |
The Welsh Rugby Union has settled its differences out of court with former Celtic Warriors owner Leighton Samuel. Samuel was claiming a misrepresentation of sale and loss of earnings after the Union acquired and then closed down the Warriors regional team back in 2004.
WRU chairman David Pickering confirmed that there is a confidentiality clause preventing either party from revealing details of the settlement.
A figure somewhere around the 500,000 mark had previously been discussed.
Ths case had been set to go to court next week but the agreement brings the long-running story of the Warriors to an end.
Samuel and the WRU released a joint statement: "The WRU has resolved its differences with Bridgend RFC and DecorFrame regarding the Celtic Warriors.
"This brings a close to the matter."
Samuel was claiming compensation for the non-use of his Brewery Field ground in Bridgend after the WRU wound up the Warriors region in 2004.
The businessman had also claimed the Union reneged on a promise to keep the Warriors alive after he sold them his 50% stake.
However, the outcome will be scant consolation for the rugby supporters from areas such as Pontypridd and Bridgend who saw their original regional side disappear.
